A lesbian but leading the very normal life as a writer and wife of a British officer, Frederick ‘Boy’ Browning, Daphne du Maurier becomes very much attracted to her American publishers’ wife, Ellen Doubleday. However, much of her affections are unrequited, so Daphne seeks solace in the arms of an actress, Gertrude Lawrence who once was a lover of Daphne’s father. This 2007 TV movie stars Geraldine Somerville as Daphne, Janet McTeer as Gertrude and Elizabeth McGovern Ellen.
